A Study on the Enterococcus Contamination in Farm Foods

Abstract
|
|
|
The results obtained from bacteriological examination of a number of different kind of samples totaled 420 that is 120-pasteurized milk samples, 50 dried milk, 200 hard ice cream and 50 canned meat collected in market during four monthly period from May to August 1976, in Seoul and Chuncheon-city, are as follows;
1. In the results from bacteriological examination of 120 pasteurized milk samples, the enterococcus were found in 25.8% and E. coli were found in 27.5%.
2. The detection rate of enterococcus and E. coli were respectively 64.0% and 4.0% in 50 dried milk samples.
3. The detection rate of enterococcus and E. coli were respectively 42.0% and 34.5% in hard ice cream.
4. The detection rate of enterococcus and E. coli were respectively 36.0% and 26.0% in canned meat.
5. From the results given above, it seems that enterococcus has the utility for the standard or index organism for the examination of the bacteriological contamination of the food.
